More than 62% of the population in Sub Saharan Africa is under the age of 25.

The global population in 2024 is estimated to be around 8.1 billion, with a significant portion being young people.
The global median age in 2020 according to the CIA World Fact Book 2020 was 31. In 1950, the median age was 23.6. This is a general sign that advances in medicine and infrastructure are enabling people to live longer as a whole.³
According to the United Nations, approximately 4.5 billion people are under the age of 30, making up more than half of the world’s population. This demographic trend is particularly pronounced in developing regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East, where young people constitute a majority of the population. In contrast, developed regions like Europe and North America are experiencing aging populations, with fewer young people relative to older adults.⁴
The median age in Sub Saharan Africa is only 20. Youths between 15 and 24 are nearing 200 million (2022). Being the largest generation our region has ever raised, they are a remarkable human resource. Youth have the potential to drive innovation (provided that these young people are equipped with the necessary skills, education, and opportunities.)
